honda s2000 larest cars

Honda is still not planning a new S2000, but special versions of the current model continue to tempt and tease. Case in point, this extreme 2.2-liter S2000 Type S, which has just gone live in Japan.

Recognizable via that big aero front spoiler and massive rear wing, this Japanese-spec Type S is a close relative to America’s new club-racer inspired S2000 CR.

Like the S2000 CR, Japan’s Type S comes with stiffer than normal suspension, that aerodynamic enhancing body kit and unique set of silver metallic 17-inch alloy wheels.

But there are two significant differences. First, America’s hardcore CR is designed very much for the track while the Type S is geared more to fast winding roads in Japan, so suspension rates are apparently a little softer.

Also, while the S2000 CR comes with a removable aluminum hardtop that replaces the convertible soft top, Japan’s Type S gets the full open air look.

No engine changes are reported so that means another showing for Honda’s brilliant F22C 2156 cc four cylinder DOHC VTEC screamer which produces 239 bhp in local tune and revs hard and fast to 9000 rpm.

The Type S, which also gets special yellow/black seats retails in Japan for ¥3.99 million – say $34,870.honda s2000
